Attractive names like mansion, chalet, barn, stable etc., are utilized to describe the houses.

Things To Know About The Shih Tzu Breed

The shih tzu, actually, is a very healthy and robust breed. The shih tzu like any other breed must be immunized against infectious diseases in puppy hood and then given a booster once every year. Proper nutrition is significant to note in maintaining the basic robust health of a shih tzu.

A shih tzu needs enough of fresh air and sunshine along with love and affection to remain healthy. Shih tzu perform best in a pampered environment. They have a great need for the close association of their human companions. Nothing makes a shih tzu happier than to be with the raiser that they love.

Obedience Training For Dogs

Some ideas found on the net about dogs are on how to train them for obedience. The two most well-known and essential styles of obedience training are leash/collar training and reward training. Reward training is a less intense practice than the leash/collar training. On the other hand, in reward training, the dog is encouraged and rewarded for good behavior. Always ear in mind that learning will be faster, if you reward your dog for good behavior.

The Number One Cause Of Pet Fatalities

Charlene was a young nurse in the emergency room of the new community hospital. She was routinely called to work different shifts. Charlene was also the proud owner and lover of a four year old golden retriever named Ben. She cared for Ben very much and did all the things that a loving pet owner does for a pet. Although she had to make adjustments to take care of Ben, she did not mind.

Sometimes Ben would have to get his breaks and exercise at night; nevertheless Charlene and Ben seemed very happy together. One night about 10 p.m. Charlene and Ben went out for a walk in the neighborhood. It was a quiet night. Ben was enjoying the walk down the neighborhood street with his owner. All of a sudden a speeding car with no headlights came toward them. It caught Charlene off guard.

Ben was spooked by the sound of the racing car engine. Instinctively he lunged to get to the opposite side of the road. Charlene lost grip of his leash. The car hit Ben but the driver did not stop to see what happened. Charlene rushed over to Ben, who seemed to be in severe pain, gathered him up and drove him to the vetenarian as soon as possible. It was night so she had to call the emergency vetenerian to meet her there.

Ben underwent extensive surgery. After a few hours the vetenarian entered the room and told Charlene that Ben would pull through. The nerve damage was so severe that he had lost the use of his hind legs. There was no hope he would ever regain use of them.

Charlene was devastated and for a long time blamed herself for the accident. Eventually Charlene was able to get an apparatus to support Bens hind legs. He is not as active as he once was but he can spend quality time with his owner and they are closer that ever before.

Because of commitments many pet owners find that they must exercise or let their pets out at night. Pets are exposed to all sorts of dangers at night. Like people the danger increases after dark. Motorists have a responsibility to obey the traffic laws in their areas. Their actions they sometimes they place themselves and others at risk. Pets and owners who are not illuminated are twice as likely to be injured or killed by a car.

Automobiles are the number one cause of pet fatalities in this country. Playing games with a lighted toy in a fenced yard, is an alternative to taking your pet out on the streets at night. It is a good idea for the owner to illuminate the pet for visibility. Also hold a flashlight for your own illumination. If you must venture out into a neighborhood avoid busy thoroughfares.

Pet safety is important to the people who love them. Motorists have a responsibility to others using the sidewalk and streets. They are more likely to see yourself and your pet if illuminated. You may want to investigate alternatives to walking your pet a night. If you must take your pet out at night, light is the key to avoiding an encounter with an automobile.

Your Best Friend Bites

Each year, nearly 4.7 million Americans are bitten by dogs. As many as 800,000 people, require medical attention for dog bites annually, and about a dozen people die each year from dog bite injuries. The good news is that most bites can be prevented. All dogs should be treated with the utmost caution; every dog will bite given the right circumstances. Each dog has its own distinct social and personal distance that a stranger is permitted to enter. This is why dogs that are tied may bite or snap when approached; they are unable to escape when there is a sudden invasion of their personal space. Always pay attention to signals given off by all dogs.

Never assume that because a dog's tail is wagging that he will not bite. It can mean indecision on the dog's part. If a dog is chasing you, never run unless you can beat the dog to a safe haven. Running is a sure way to aggravate an attack, so if you see a dog wandering loose without an owner and it approaches you, do not run away, yell or make loud noises. Stand very still like a tree and cross your arms over your chest, as if you are giving yourself a great, big hug. (This shape forms the trunk of your tree.) Look away from the dog, because dogs sometimes think direct eye contact is a challenge for power and control. Your intention is not to challenge the dog. Instead you just want the dog to go away. Toss an object away from you and away from the dog. This should attract its attention toward the object and away from you. The dog should move toward the thrown object to sniff and investigate it, which will give you a chance to slowly, turn and walk away. All stray dog encounters does not have to end in a bite.

If you believe that a dog is going to attack you, offer it whatever you have with you, whether it is a clipboard, briefcase, or purse. If the dog is truly aggressive he will grab the object and hold on. As the dog holds on do not let go of the object, if you do he will soon realize that it is not you and will more than likely attack again. Normally, once the dog realizes that he is having little or no effect, he will stop the attack, or at the very least, give you time to plan your next move. You should only strike the dog as a last resort. Inflicting pain on the dog can only make him more aggressive, as he will identify you as the source of his pain. If you happen to be knocked to the ground, remain motionless in the fetal position, and protect your face by crossing your arms above your head. It is also important to remember that turning and running are signals for a dog to chase and attack. Most people are bitten moving away from a dog when they turn to run. Dogs are usually less aggressive on neutral ground, so it is important to gradually increase the distance from where the dog lives, if that is where the encounter occurred. Sometimes all efforts to resolve a stand off with dog fail and the unfortunate happens.

If a dog that may attack you approaches, first follow some simple steps to avoid being bitten. If you are bitten or attacked by a dog, try not to panic. Immediately wash the wound thoroughly with soap and warm water. Contact your physician for additional care and advice. Report the bite to your local animal care and control agency. Tell the animal control official everything you know about the dog, including his owner's name and the address where he lives. If the dog is a stray, tell the animal control official what the dog looks like, where you saw him, whether you've seen him before, and in which direction he went.

Surviving Office Politics - Keeping Your Job And Income

It is often quoted that the first profession or career choice in history was prostitution. If that is so then the second profession must be “politics”. Again and again the specter of struggles of human relationships and indeed of “office politics” rears its head again and again in the workplace. This is in spite of all practicalities and effects on human relationships, efficiency in the workplace and indeed on business effectiveness, profitability of the organization or firm in the marketplace. It is all foolish, counterproductive and indeed stupid. Yet how can you deal with issues and events. In most cases all you want to do survive. It’s all a matter of ultimately keeping your job, career employment and income through the specter and gamesmanship of “office politics”?

First of all – take the time to observe. True it is a luxury that you may not have. If at all possible watch the workplace and its players. What are the organizations key core values? Is the basic viewpoint one of long term thinking or only of the short term “what is the bottom line?” Type of decision making? Especially pay attention to the decision making and thought process patterns of upper management and owner’s.
This is what may count and prevail in the end, not the pattern of your direct supervisor or co – workers?

Is the “corporate culture” one of innovation and risk taking or is it an older died in the wool type where the basic viewpoint and standing is to any issues and challenges is the answer “You do not have to tell me ….. I have been in this business for 10, 20, 30 …. Years”.

In order to win, or least stay in the game, you need proper tools. Where is your firm or industry headed? Evaluate winners in both your firm and the industry as model. Acquire those skills and credentials. Take courses and extra training – even at your own expense if the firm will not spring for the funds. You will be ahead at the end of the process. First of all the banyuk with the degree or diploma on the wall “Must know more “when it comes to an argument or discussion. If there is a position to be filled for advancement, it often comes down to one determining factor of which candidate has more. Bingo guess that get the promotion – is now at a higher level of command and authority or who has left those specific office politics and problem individuals behind? Lastly if things get downright foolish you are in a much better position to either look for other employment or at the least threaten to leave unless the office politics and foolishness cool down.

No matter what most people say – in the end , if you live long enough , it all comes down to money . Profitability of the firm or organization is where it’s at. Troublemakers have a way of doing themselves in. Be an efficient effective employee who brings the firm profit. This may be in terms of production on the factory floor, sales in a sales organization, or case load in terms of service or governmental organizations. Don’t make waves. Lay low. Don’t cause trouble.

Your results will speak for themselves, although it never hurts to be able to communicate your virtues and results. If communication is not your forte, then join a toastmasters club or similar training program to improve your communication skills.

In the end problems in life, and office politics tend to work themselves out. In the end you are what you are and You are not what you are not. Time seems to take care of all problems. Things have a way of working themselves out in life and in the workplace.

Choosing the Right Pet Carrier for Your Pet

Whatever kind of pet or animal you own, a time may come where you are required to transport him or her. Whether it's just to give your pet a place to go or for an emergency visit to the vet, the why, where, and what will all play a role in the type of pet carrier you should get.

Choosing the Right Carrier for Your Pet

Pet carriers range from the mundane and generic to the elaborate and cushy. Depending on the type of animal you have and whether you're looking to transport or just take your pet for a walk, you'll have very different needs for a pet carrier, and all of these points will affect your decision.

Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when shopping for a carrier:

Animal Type and Size -- Obviously a large dog will need a bigger carrier than a cat, while a bird will have completely different requirements than their four-legged, non-flying friends.

Reason for Transport -- If you are just making a quick trip to the vet for booster shots or to have Buster's strange-sounding cough checked out, then something elaborate probably isn't going to be necessary or wanted. On the other hand, if you're planning on using it to take your pet on long walks, something larger with an open top or port holes to allow your pet to see out and is also easy to move about (something more like a carriage maybe) will make your pet more comfortable and will be easier on you.

Length of Trip -- If you'll be out for a long time, a pet carrier with built-in feeders might be appropriate.

Road Trip, or Walk Through the Park -- Pet car seats are available to help keep your pet safe on long car trips while a carriage-style carrier might be more appropriate while taking Fluffy to the park. Bicycle trailers are also available for those times you want to get in a good bike ride, but Killer gets overly stressed when left alone.

Your Pet's Comfort Level -- Pets who have grown up doing a lot of travelling will probably feel comfortable in virtually any sized carrier. However, if you've had a tendency to pamper your show-winning Abigail, then something that provides her with as much comfort as possible will help reduce stress during the trip.

In the end, your pet will probably be fine in just about any type of pet carrier. The decision will often come down to what is most convenient for you. Don't dismiss your pet's needs altogether though. The last thing you want is a vengeful cat on your hands!

Pet Abbey (http://www.petabbey.com) offer a wide variety carriers and car seats allowing you to select the perfect pet carrier for your needs. The author, Art Gib, is a freelance writer.

Dogs... Masters of Our Universe

Dogs are the greatest companion animals... Period.
This is sure to rouse the ire of any cat lover, but I cannot see how someone cannot like dogs, or love dogs. They are the greatest companion animals in our society.

That is my opinion of course.

As legend has it, and which is probably true, the humans from our past realized the benefit of keeping them near the camp. The wolves; and what soon became dogs, began to realize they would be thrown a few scraps of food in return for staying near the camp. The presence of these canines was probably a deterrent in keeping the large cats, bears or other dangerous predators at bay. The canines got what they wanted, and the humans did as well.

Wolves became dogs which then became domesticated. Dogs then became our pets, as well as guardians, and even a food source. Fortunately dogs are not considered a food source in most parts of the world any longer, and are simply revered as pets.

In just the past 15 years the place of dogs in the family has changed. They spend more time in the family dwelling and less time in the backyard. They may spend more time sleeping on the bed with their humans, and less time in their own doghouse.

Dogs are also used in many roles which may be as diverse as the breeds themselves. Over the years dogs have been selectively bred to be more efficient hunters, herding dogs, or guard dogs. More recently they have been trained to assist a physically challenged person around the house or to serve as the eyes of a visually challenged person. They are also trained to assist the Police in apprehensions and narcotics detection.

Try to get a cat to do any of that.

People are also spending much more on their dogs then ever before, not just for premium dog food but for medical care as well. Veterinary care has come a long way in just the last 20 years. There are Veterinary specialties for oncology and orthopedics as well as many other disciplines.

In the past a dog was not taken to the vet unless it was obviously sick, and sometimes not even then. Today more dogs are being taken in for routine checkups than ever before. There are also more effective preventative treatments available today to prevent parasitic infestations, such as heartworms.

Go to any pet store and you will find a wide variety of dog food and treats. Back in the day you might find three or four brands of dog food at the market and the only treats you would find were Milk Bones. Now there are literally hundreds of types of dog food in all price ranges. The dog treats have expanded as well into more flavorful and delectable varieties sure to satisfy even the most finicky eater. Our dogs have become our family members, and it shows.

In our world today the place of the dog has changed from the scraggly mutt sleeping on the porch to the groomed companion sleeping at our feet, or in our bed. The dog has become the king of his domain and the master of his universe.

Can Animals Really Be Psychic? Read This and Find Out

If you are a proud pet owner, you have most assuredly had moments where you thought your pet was literally reading your mind. Sometimes it's a simple stare, or a turn of the head, or even a simple intuitive run up the steps, a yelp of excitement that precedes a walk, or a trip in the family automobile. Most of us simply chuckle, roll our eyes and while we may secretly wonder, rarely do we give any serious thought that our dogs are bestowed with any special powers of insight or uncanny intellect. This however, may be changing, and as a result of lots of fascinating studies, some scientists are almost ready to say - "our pets may be psychic after all!"

Have you heard about the cat that "works" in a hospice? He has an uncanny knack of knowing when one of the residents is ready to pass on, and will visit the room of a patient before he or she dies, often 4 to 6 hours beforehand. This strangely gifted feline will stay with the elderly resident until they begin the journey into the great mystery that lies beyond this life. Doctors and nurses alike have attested to this remarkable "house" cat for many months, claiming that their best scientific methods aside, the very best indicator of a patient's upcoming demise is dictated very simply by a visit from the cat.

Does your dog know when you are coming home? There have been lots of experiments that say, while you are gone, your dog actually "feels" when you are ready to return, even while YOUR mind is on more pressing personal matters. Recent studies have shown, while incorporating real and hard core scientific protocols that your dog may sense FAR more than we think, and may have a connection to our consciousness that surpasses SOME science fiction novels.

The truth is, none of us really know what is going on behind those big, innocent and loving eyes. Much like the dog that can find his way home from hundreds of miles away, there is much more for us to learn about our favorite four legged furry friends. And who knows? As we unlock some of the mysteries that lie behind the canine mind, we may shed some extra and important light on those that lie behind our own as well.

To take part in a fun, exciting and GROUNDBREAKING new study of pets and their unbreakable bond with their owners, visit us at dogsthatknow.com! Simply take the survey to see if you and your favorite four legged friend might actually be closer than you even know - or contact us directly to take part in the fun!
