Get Rich Quick
I'm a guy who is pretty prone to the get rich quick mentality. Im sure it has something to do with some underlying attitude I have, and hopefully someday Ill figure it out, but until then, I just have to recognize that I want to get rich, but I want it now.
Its a classic American mindset, one which a huge number of people portray. We all want extraordinary things, but we dont want to have to work extraordinarily hard to get them. I can recognize that I often feel like I'm above the rules, and find myself looking down on hard workers. Why work hard when you can just work smart?
Needless to say, working smart instead of hard has really gotten me nowhere. Working smart is great, but without the hard work to back it up, you end up spending more time looking for shortcuts than actually working, and achieving nothing.
Ive been talking to a number of financially successful people lately, and one point keeps coming up - becoming wealthy takes time. Not only does it take time, it takes patience and hard work. Even if a person finds a loophole somehow (wins the lottery, lets say) it doesnt last, because they havent formed the maturity (through hard work and patience) to handle the money well, nor do they have the ability to create more money - so once its gone, its gone.
Im doing my best to think in longer terms, not worry about immediate reward, and push myself to work hard no matter what the situation. Its incredibly difficult. I'm beginning to see why most Americans are NOT wealthy - it takes an extraordinary person to achieve it.
